Tiny Trekkers

Hip Hikers

It’s time to stroll into summer and hike our property.  Do you have hip hiking gear?  Bring it along…we’ll have a show and tell and also show you how to be prepared for any hike.   Take a trip to a local park and choose your stroke…either swim with our counselors or practice in a tube.

Peaceful Paddlers

It’s time to practice your paddling strokes…learn how to canoe on our pond and tube down the Brandywine.  There’s more fun at a local park where you can practice your swim strokes or just plain play.  Had enough water?  Stroll our peaceful property and explore what summer 2021 has in store for you!

Kindred Kayakers

It’s time to let loose…summer is here.  Warm up with a stroll to your kayak.  Take it easy with your “kindred kampers” and explore the 318 acre property at Myrick.  Want more practice with your strokes…maybe ditch your tube and swim down the Brandywine.

Incredible Inchworms

Inch your way around our property and observe the critters that crawl here every day.  Learn why they’re not creepy and how to treat them.  Make a replica of your favorite insect and explore how they’re different.  Enjoy a special visit from The “BugMan”!

Wonderful Whirligigs

Whirl your way into the wonderful world of creepy crawlies.  Just what is a creepy crawlie?  Where do they live?  Are some of them good?  Become the guest of our resident creepie crawlies and play alongside them.  Invent and create your own to take home.  Enjoy a special visit from The “BugMan”!

Daring Dragonflies/Dazzling Damselflies (Two groups offered this week. Please pick one.)

Prepare to be dazzled with all things crawling at our camp.  Dare to explore for more at a local park.  Float like a dragonfly as you go tubing down the Brandywine.  Put creepy wrigglers to use as you go fishing.  Enjoy a special visit from The “BugMan”!

Crawling Crayfish

Age: 10-12

Claw your way down the Brandywine in a canoe…you may just find a crayfish.  What lurks in our fields and streams…do they have 6, 8, or more legs?  Maybe some don’t even have any.  Don’t get bugged out, we’ll crawl our way to more excitement offsite and see if some friends creep into your heart.  Enjoy a special visit from The “BugMan”!

Shooting Stars

Age: 12-15
Date: June 28-July 2

Learn all the tips and tricks to become the best marksman or woman!  Discover how to safely shoot a bow and arrow, crossbow, air rifle, 22 caliber rifle and shotgun.  Keep the fun going while practicing with atlatls, slingshots and tomahawk throwing.  You’ll visit the Ommelanden Hunter Education Training Center to learn how to shoot trap and skeet.  Your expert leader and BRC’s Executive Director Jim Jordan, a certified Hunter Safety and Shooting Instructor with over 20 years of experience, will make sure all campers are safe and supervised while having a blast!  All equipment provided; no experience necessary.  Top off the week with an offsite excursion.

Lenni Lenape

Age: 4-5
Date: July 6-9

Live like a native, come explore how the Lenape lived all those years ago.  Taste the difference between a pancake and Lenape salpon (frybread).  Make a brush shelter to take a nap in.  Stalk the wild animals and play games to hone your hunting skills.

Colonial Colonists

Way back when during colonial times, there were little modern conveniences.  How did they do it?  Find out what it took to feed a family and keep a roof over your head.  How did they shower?  Maybe it was at Shaw’s Bridge.

The pioneer days were long ago.  How did they do it?  Learn some of the skills that were used to survive on the open prairie.  Take a trip back in time and find out what innovations made life easier.

Puddle Jumpers

Have a jumping good time while exploring all that water has to offer and just how much there is on earth.  Play with water, play in water and even make a mud pie.  End the week with a camp wide slip & slide kickball tournament.

Meander your way down to our stream and discover the animals that live there, the plants that grow there, and just what the water has to offer both…or maybe is too much water a problem?  Continue to get drenched playing water games.  Love the water?  Visit a local park to stomp and “raft” in the creek.  End the week with a camp wide slip & slide kickball tournament.

Swamp Busters

Explore what our wetlands have to offer as you learn how to protect them.  Not bogged down?  We’ll bust out of here and take a secret field trip.  Get wet and wild as we tube down the Brandywine.  End the week with a camp wide slip & slide kickball tournament.

Counselor in Training

Age: 15
Date: July 12-16

Get a leg up on what it takes to be a camp counselor at BRC.  You will go through a condensed version of the very same training our counselors do.  Two days will be spent “in training”, two will be spent with two different age groups and you get to paddleboard with the 12-14s.  Upon successful completion, CITs will leave with a certificate of achievement.

Put your training to use if you volunteer the week of August 2nd  to help with the camp at BRC’s Saalbach Farm (transportation required).  In return, you will receive documented volunteer hours for school.

Green Guardians

Age: 4-5

Come discover what is green and why on earth it needs to be guarded.  Learn what it’s like to be a hero helping protect wildlife.  What special power will you share with your camp mates?

Marvel at the super powers of the great outdoors.  The day will fly as you discover what lurks under rocks, in the ground or above the trees.  Splash and play at a local park.  Take a field trip and see the wonders of another marvelous outdoor space made possible by one of the greatest planet heroes.

Hop through the Myrick Conservation Center and learn about all things animalia.  From wings to hooves to webbed feet…you will hike our property to discover the different types of habitats and animals that live here.  Come learn how different animals eat, move, play and live.  Top off the week with a visit from Hawk Mountain.

Migrating Mammals

Come willing to find magnificent animals.   You may just see a mallard at our pond or find a walleye when fishing.  Find more as you take a leisurely canoe trip.  Compare all those animals to others you encounter on an offsite field trip or on your overnight.  Which ones have similar behaviors, habitats and colors?  Top off the week with a visit from Hawk Mountain.

Birds of a feather flock together…start your week with an exciting field trip to the New Bolton Center.  Discover all the fascinating ways you can work with animals.  Then continue discovering water animals as you go kayaking down the Brandywine.  End the week with a visit from Hawk Mountain.

Whispering Willows

Age: 4-5
Date: August 2-6

Do willows really whisper?  If you listen closely, you’ll hear them tell you about the differences between trees, shrubs, meadows and gardens.  Follow your nose to take a tour of our property’s blooms.  Spend time in our garden sampling the fruits of our harvest.

Cultivated Cattails

Age: 6-8
Date: August 2-6

Are cattails really cultivated?  What about a cats tail? Join us to learn about the many uses of plants, including just how versatile a cattail really is.  You may even take a nap on a bed of cattails.  Come play in our garden and learn about the differences between flowers, fruits and vegetables.  Have an adventure at a local orchard.

Feathery Ferns

Date: August 2-6

Are all plants the same?  Explore the differences between ferns and the vegetables in our garden and the flowers in our fields.  What can you eat?  Do they have other uses?  Take a field trip and travel the path of a plant from seed to fork.

Variegated Vegetables (Overnight at Myrick)

Join us on a botanical adventure.  What will you eat?  Take a field trip and find out how potato chips are made.  Wash it all down with a kayak trip down the Brandywine.  Sleepy?  Pitch you tent or hammock and sleep out under the stars…but first, you will need to harvest and cook your dinner over an open fire.
