Inch your way around our property and observe the critters that crawl here every day.  Learn why they’re not creepy and how to treat them.  Make a replica of your favorite insect and explore how they’re different.  End the week with a special visit from The “BugMan”!

Whirl your way into the wonderful world of creepy crawlies.  Just what is a creepy crawlie?  Where do they live?  Are some of them good?  Become the guest of our resident creepie crawlies and play alongside them.  Invent and create your own to take home.  End the week with a special visit from The “BugMan”!

Daring Dragonflies and Dazzling Damselflies (Two groups offered this week. Please pick one.)

Prepare to be dazzled with all things crawling at our camp.  Dare to explore for more at a local park.  Float like a dragonfly as you go tubing down the Brandywine.  Put creepy wrigglers to use as you go fishing.  End the week with a special visit from The “BugMan”!

Crawling Crayfish-THIS CAMP IS NOW FULL.

Claw your way down the Brandywine in a canoe…you may just find a crayfish.  What lurks in our field and streams…do they have 6, 8, or more legs?  Maybe some don’t even have any.  Don’t get bugged out, we will visit the Entomology Department at the University of Delaware.  End the week with a special visit from The “BugMan”!

Shooting Stars

Age: 12-15
Date: June 22-June 26

Learn all the tips and tricks to become the best marksman or woman!  Discover how to safely shoot a bow and arrow, crossbow, air rifle, 22 caliber rifle and shotgun.  Keep the fun going while practicing with atlatls, slingshots and tomahawk throwing.  You’ll visit the Ommelanden Hunter Education Training Center to learn how to shoot, trap and skeet.  Your expert leader and BRC’s Executive Director Jim Jordan, a certified Hunter Safety and Shooting Instructor with over 20 years of experience, will make sure all campers are safe and supervised while having a blast!  All equipment provided; no experience necessary.  Top off the week with a relaxing canoe trip down the Brandywine with Northbrook Canoe Company.

Outdoor Freedom Tykes

Age: 4-5

Be free!  Free to run in the woods, and free to splash in the water.  This 4 day camp lets you play in America’s big backyard.  Have a star spangled good time with water play, crafts and the freedom of the great outdoors.  On Thursday, enjoy 4th of July inspired tales by a local storyteller.

We start the week “Making A Splash”.  Later in the week, we will meander our way down to our stream and discover the animals that live there, the plants that grow there, and just what the water has to offer both…or maybe is too much water a problem?  They’ll continue to get drenched playing water games when we visit a local park and stomp in the creek.  We’ll celebrate the end of the week with a campfire and s’mores.

We’ll start off the week “Making A Splash”.  Then we’ll bust a move and find out what it means to join the ranks of other swamp busters.  Explore what our wetlands have to offer as you learn how to protect them.  Not bogged down?  Get wet and wild as we tube down the Brandywine.  Celebrate the end of the week with a campfire and s’mores.

Hop through the Myrick Conservation Center and learn about all things animalia.  From wings to hooves to webbed feet…you will hike our property to discover the different types of habitats and animals that live here.  Come learn how different animals eat, move, play and live.  Top off the week with a visit from Jungle John.

Come find magnificent animals on our 318-acre property.  You may just see a mallard at our pond or find a walleye when fishing.  Find more as you take a leisurely canoe trip.  Compare all those animals to a large 4-legged creature that you will ride during an offsite field trip.  Which ones have similar behaviors, habitats and colors?  Which are different?  A visit from Jungle John will celebrate the end of the week.

Birds of Prey (Overnight at Myrick)

Birds of a feather flock together…start your summer with an exciting field trip to the New Bolton Center.  Discover all the fascinating ways you can work with animals.  Then continue discovering water animals as you go kayaking down the Brandywine.  Continue with an owl prowl during your overnight and end the week with a trip to just chill at Shaw’s Bridge Park.

Counselor in Training (Overnight at Myrick) AGE 15 ONLY

NEW THIS YEAR – Get a leg up on what it takes to be a camp counselor at BRC.  You will go through a condensed version of the very same training our counselors do.  Half of the day will be spent “in training”, the other half you will be placed with one of the age groups to shadow the counselors, spending time with each age group during the week.  You will attend the same field trip and overnight as the 12-14s.  Upon successful completion, CITs will leave with a certificate of achievement.

Come discover what is green and why on earth it needs to be guarded.  Learn what it’s like to be a hero and even create your very own super cape.  What special power will you share with your camp mates?  On Friday, help our camp and discover just “Whose Trash It Is”!

Do willows really whisper?  If you listen closely, you’ll hear them tell you about the differences between trees, shrubs, meadows and gardens.  Follow your nose to take a tour of our property’s blooms.  Spend time in our garden sampling the fruits of our harvest.  At the end of the week, we’ll celebrate the end of summer with a picnic featuring some of our favorite edible plants.

Counselor in Training AGE 15 ONLY
